Intern Pastor Deborah preached the sermon on Galatians 3:1-9, which was entitled, “So Those Who Rely on Faith are Blessed”. The sermon expounded on what faith means. Salvation comes not through the law, works, or circumcision, but through faith in the gospel-the saving work of God through the Incarnation, the Cross, the Resurrection, and the Ascension of Christ. The Cross, in particular, was highlighted as the pivotal act that opens the way to salvation.

The preacher reminded the congregation of Paul’s warning to the Galatians: “O foolish Galatians, who has bewitched you?” This served as a caution against returning to legalism or relying on human effort rather than trusting God’s grace. It was explained that even the Galatian believers, who had received the Holy Spirit, were at risk of being led astray by false teachers who insisted on following the law for salvation.

Drawing from the example of Abraham, the preacher explained that faith means trusting God even without knowing the full outcome, living with hope in His promises, and believing in resurrection and eternal life. Abraham was counted righteous because of his faith, long before circumcision or the law, showing that righteousness is a gift of God’s grace.

The message concluded by urging believers to hold firmly to the gospel, to live by faith, and to understand that through faith, both Jews and Gentiles are united as Abraham’s spiritual descendants. The sermon reinforced that salvation is received through God’s grace, not human effort, and called the congregation to remain steadfast in faith and grace.

May God continue to lead all attendees to live by faith daily, experiencing greater works of Holy Spirit when they lay themselves down with Jesus at the Cross, and also to witness the greater blessings and promises of God that will be fulfilled. 

Intern Pastor Deborah preached the sermon on Ephesians 6:10-18, which was entitled, “Put on The Full Armour of God”. The sermon reminded the congregation that every believer faces daily spiritual warfare against an invisible but real enemy. Satan is deceitful, cunning, and always seeking to destroy God’s people, sow pride, and shake their identity in Christ. Victory is possible only by being strong in the Lord’s mighty power and not relying on human wisdom.

Remaining in Christ makes believers secure, for they are children and heirs of God with authority in Jesus’ name to resist and overcome the enemy. Paul’s teaching on the full armour of God was explained in detail. The belt of truth anchors the believer in Christ, who is Himself the truth, and provides the foundation for the Word, which is the sword sharper than any weapon against Satan’s lies. The breastplate of righteousness guards the heart with a longing for God’s kingdom and keeps believers from being shaken. The shoes of the gospel prepare them to advance and share the good news, while the shield of faith blocks the enemy’s arrows of doubt.

The helmet of salvation secures the hope of eternal life and keeps believers from growing weary, and the sword of the Spirit, the Word of God, serves as the offensive weapon to fight with truth and live by the Spirit. The sermon concluded by emphasizing that all of these pieces of armour are necessary, not just some, and that believers must remain in prayer in the Spirit at all times. In doing so, they stand firm in their identity as children of God, walk in faith, and experience true victory in Christ who has already overcome Satan.

May God continue to lead all attendees to stand firmly with the armour of God in the new month of September, experiencing victory after victory in unity with Jesus Christ to bring many more souls to Salvation and raised as disciples of Christ. 

Intern Pastor Deborah preached the sermon on Colossians 1:14-18, which was entitled, “Jesus, the Son, the Image of Invisible God”. The sermon emphasized the importance of Christology, the study of Christ, as the foundation of Christian faith. While other religions acknowledge Jesus in many ways, Scripture clearly reveals Him as the Messiah, the Anointed One, through whom all believers are reconciled to God and saved. Paul’s letter to the Colossians addressed confusion in the early church about the nature of Jesus, affirming that salvation and reconciliation with God the Father is possible only through Him. Understanding who Jesus truly is ensures a grounded and distinct faith, especially when facing conflicting and false teachings or false views of Christ.

From Colossians 1, the preacher highlighted two truths about Jesus. First, He is the image of the invisible God, revealing the Father to humanity. As Jesus said in John 14:9, “Anyone who has seen me has seen the Father.” Through His life, death, and resurrection, believers encounter God directly, and through the Holy Spirit, Jesus now dwells in those who believe. This means that Christians are called not only to follow God’s commands but also to experience His deep love and joy personally.

Second, Jesus is the firstborn of all creation, the eternal Son through whom all things were made. Though fully God, He humbled Himself, becoming a servant and obedient even to death on the cross, showing the depth of His love. The message then turned to application. To know Jesus is to live distinctly, reflecting His character through sacrifice, humility, and grace. Believers are chosen by God’s grace to receive His Word and are called to treasure this gift by storing up Scripture in their hearts, meditating on it, and allowing it to transform their lives. Jesus is both Christ from below, living humbly on earth, and Christ from above, the eternal Son anointed as Savior.

Recognizing Him as such brings freedom from fear and misunderstanding of God. The sermon concluded with encouragement to build up God’s Word while young, live as new creations in Christ, and let lives be transformed daily so that others may see and believe in the gospel. 

Intern Pastor Deborah delivered the sermon based on Matthew 4:1–11, titled “Man Shall Not Live on Bread Alone, But on Every Word That Comes from the Mouth of God.” She opened the message by highlighting how Jesus was led by the Holy Spirit into the wilderness to be tempted. Though Jesus Himself could not sin, He willingly underwent temptation to reveal how believers can overcome it.

Throughout the three temptations—centered on material needs, love, and fame—Satan persistently challenged Jesus’ identity. Yet, each time, Jesus responded unwaveringly with, “It is written,” demonstrating the unshakable power of God’s Word. Even after fasting for 40 days and nights and being physically weakened, He stood firm.

Through this passage, the congregation was reminded that the key to resisting temptation lies in being deeply rooted in the Word of God and maintaining absolute faith in obedience. Jesus, as the perfect Son of God, set the example for all believers to follow—remaining firm in identity and not falling prey to the enemy’s lies.

May all who attended be led by God to live lives centered on His Word, strengthened in truth, and faithful in obedience.

Intern Pastor Deborah preached the sermon on Daniel 1, which examined how Daniel and the three young men who kept their faith and purity absolutely in the midst of the royal palace. Though the king has officially decreed for Daniel and the young men chosen to eat of the royal food and wine, they did not compromise on this. Even when the king’s official spoke that he could possibly lose his life if Daniel and his friends looked weaker than others, Daniel did not relent but asked that they be tested for 10 days.

Daniel’s firm faith and trust to be set apart as holy in the small things is crucial. Christians tend to conform and give in to the culture of the world, thinking that small things are not of importance. However, in a seemingly small condition of eating food, Daniel kept it holy and was greatly filled with wisdom and abilities by God that he did not lack in any way. Attendees were exhorted to keep the purity of faith by setting apart the things that they consume in media and seek to build holy habits that seeks to glorify God.

May God continue to lead all the attendees to live holy and set apart for the Lord Jesus, seeking to reveal the power of the name of Jesus Christ in being a clean and pure vessel.

Intern Pastor Deborah preached the opening service on Acts 1:6-8, which was entitled, “You Will Be My Witnesses in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the Ends of the Earth”. The sermon explained the meaning of Pentecost in the Old Testament as one filled with thanksgiving to God and presenting Him the firstfruits of the harvest. Jesus Christ is the firstfruits (1 Corinthians 15:20) which Christians have received and can always rejoice in the precious gift of Salvation. Apart from receiving the fulfillment of God’s promise for the Messiah to come, Christians are promised to receive power of Holy Spirit (Acts 1:8) to be witnesses of Jesus Christ and be the ones where God will continue the work of building God’s Kingdom. 

Encouraging all attendees to listen carefully to the Bible lectures explicating on the Holy Spirit, Intern Pastor Deborah shared the Holy Spirit will be the Spirit of truth leading all attendees and to be the ones to be transformed by the Holy Word of God. The first Bible lecture was delivered by Intern Pastor Deborah on John 14:15-26, which was entitled, “I Will Not Leave You As Orphans; I Will Come to You.” In explicating the trinity of explaining the reason Jesus Christ and the Holy Spirit each are necessary for Christians to understand the nature of God, the attendees were exhorted to deeply meditate on the precious gift of Holy Spirit given and not to quench the power of Holy Spirit, but seek to become holy temples that always seek to retain the gift of Holy Spirit.

After a fruitful lunch, the attendees gathered for ice-breakers. The ice-breakers began with looking at the Oxford definition of ‘comfort’. In considering the different ways that attendees seek comfort physically and emotionally, it was explained the gift of Holy Spirit brings more than just comfort only. The Holy Spirit is the Spirit of truth that reminds believers of the deepest comfort in knowing God’s love (John 14:26-27), and the active work of sanctification of Holy Spirit (Romans 8:13-15). The final part of the icebreaker calls on the attendees to share one instance of the work of Holy Spirit in their lives.

The second Bible lecture was delivered by Pastor Leah primarily on John 16:7-15 and Romans 8:1-17, explaining the role and significance of the Holy Spirit. She explained that Pentecost marks the beginning of a new era in which the Holy Spirit was sent to dwell in believers. The Spirit convicts people of sin, reminds them of Jesus’ words, comforts, and sanctifies them. Pastor Leah emphasized the importance of repentance, recognizing spiritual warfare, and relying on the Holy Spirit for true transformation. She encouraged all believers to seek a deeper relationship with the Holy Spirit and to live with the identity and dignity of those saved and led by God.

The first day of Pentecost Retreat was concluded with a praise and prayer session after reflections were shared. In the Pentecost Sunday Service, Intern Pastor Deborah preached on Acts 2:1–13 for Pentecost Sunday, emphasizing the coming of the Holy Spirit as the birth of the Church and the fulfillment of God’s promise through Jesus. She explained that while Jewish Pentecost celebrates the harvest and the giving of the law, Christian Pentecost marks the outpouring of the Spirit to all believers, regardless of background.

The sermon highlighted that the Church is not a building but a people filled with the Spirit, called to be holy and renewed. The signs of wind, fire, and tongues signify life, power, and the universal reach of the Gospel. She concluded by urging believers to be filled with the Holy Spirit, live as living sacrifices (Romans 12:1), and walk in victory each day through God’s power.

May God lead all attendees to be deeply renewed by the grace of Jesus Christ in delivering all from sins and deeply receiving the Holy Spirit to be empowered and sanctified of their sins, becoming His bold witnesses for the gospel to the ends of the earth.

Intern Pastor Deborah preached the sermon on Acts 3:1-10, which was entitled, “Silver or Gold I Do Not Have, in the Name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth, Walk”. The sermon continued the study of Acts where the first healing miracle of the disciples of Christ was explicated. As both apostles Peter and John went up to the temple to pray, the united heart of prayer and co-working was highlighted in the early church. The temple was the place where their Lord Jesus Christ was wrongfully persecuted and ultimately crucified, yet the apostles did not have fear but certainty and boldness to go up to the temple to keep the time of prayer and eventually to preach the gospel message to the enemies of Christ.

As the apostles met the lame beggar at the gate of the temple, their exhortation to the lame man to look at them is to shift the perspective of being fixated on money and the things of the world, to seek the Salvation in Jesus Christ. Though the beggar likely has no expectation of healing and only expected some small change to sustain his life, the apostles delivered to him the name of Jesus Christ that fundamentally changed his life and healed him to stand up with joyful praise to God.

The apostles used to live as fishermen but they have now been transformed by the grace of receiving the Holy Spirit through Jesus Christ to be fishers of man. They were the ones who used to be like the lame beggar seeking for just their livelihoods, to now making many spiritually rich though they possess nothing. In embodying the life of Jesus to deliver the Word of God that truly satisfies the thirsty and hungry in the world, the apostles reveal the unthinkable work of Holy Spirit through faith in Jesus Christ to give new life to those who are like the lame beggar. 

The sermon concluded with an exhortation to come to meet Jesus Christ for those who have yet to experience and long for the healing that they could be the channel of God’s grace to share the good news of Jesus Christ to many more as apostles Peter and John did. 

May God continue to lead all attendees to deeply meditate on the joyful Salvation to be received in the Lord and to grow deeper in the Word that their lives can be fundamentally changed to live for Jesus Christ to share the good news to many more. 

Pastor Deborah preached the sermon on John 21:15-19, which was entitled, ‘Feed My Lambs’. The message, drawn from John 21:15-19, reflects on the final conversation between Jesus and Peter following the resurrection. In this encounter, Jesus asks Peter three times, “Do you love me?” and, in response to each affirmation, commands him to “Feed my lambs,” “Take care of my sheep,” and “Feed my sheep.”

This exchange serves as both a restoration of Peter after his earlier denial and a clear commissioning to shepherd God’s people. Jesus intentionally refers to Peter by his former name, “Simon son of John,” reminding him of his humble origins and calling him to remember the grace he received.

The message emphasizes that true love for the Lord is demonstrated through caring for those whom He loves. Shepherding, as presented here, is not just a role but a path of the cross-marked by sacrifice, humility, and a willingness to lay down one’s life. Jesus’ final words, “Follow me,” represent a call to a life of deep commitment and obedience that glorifies God.

The message concludes with a prayerful exhortation for attendees to return to their first love, renew their sense of calling, and faithfully fulfill the holy mission of shepherding God’s people, relying on the power of the Holy Spirit.

Intern Pastor Deborah preached the sermon on John 14:1-7, which was entitled, “Jesus, the Way, the Truth, and the Life”. Following John 13, the attendees were led to meditate on Jesus’ heart in comforting the disciples. Despite facing Judas’ departure and prophesizing that Peter will betray Him, Jesus should have been more deeply troubled than anyone else, yet He comforted the disciples to not fear the troubles ahead (John 14:1). 

The deep heart of Jesus’ love is revealed profoundly in His words and in every aspect of His life. He gave the answer to the disciples that they need not fear because Jesus is returning to the Father to prepare a place for them and to also eventually bring them together with Him. This is the certainty of every disciple’s destination in following Jesus where they will return to the Father in Heaven. There will be many challenges and difficulties, but the peace that comes into each disciple’s heart is to know certainly where they will end in.

Citing the example of being fearful to lose direction of getting to the destination, Jesus has given the clear direction to reach the Father, it is through Him as the way, the truth and the life. There is only way which is through Jesus Christ in embracing His life of Cross and Resurrection. No matter the various ways people try to take to reach the destination, whether by their lawfulness or placing anything else in their center, they will never be righteous. 

In Romans 8:1-5, it is clear that Jesus has set all people free from condemnation and the law of sin and death. The focus of each person’s life is not about perfection through lawfulness, but to be transformed in fixing their eyes of Jesus to not lose sight of the direction (Hebrews 12:1-3). The love of Jesus Christ in the Path of Cross from John 13-21 is not merely lawful obedience, but each person to have their eyes opened to see the grace and love of God that washes their hearts and ignites them inwardly to take the Cross. 

May God continually lead all attendees to receive deeper love and grace in the Lenten meditation and experience a transformation in their journeys following Jesus Christ absolutely.
