On December 18, 2022, Singapore Immanuel Church held its Closing Service for the Christmas Retreat.

Pastor Drew preached the sermon on John 8:12 and Matthew 5:14-16, and the sermon was entitled, ‘You are the Light of the World’. The sermon emphasized on meditating deeply on the meaning and coming of Jesus Christ who lived as the light of the world to give life to the world and to people living in darkness. In so knowing, Christians would imitate Christ in being the light not hidden but placed atop of the hill for many more to receive Jesus as the light of salvation in their darkness of sins.

Pastor Drew shared, “Before we met Christ, there was nothing good in us. We could not save ourselves and we could not be righteous by our own efforts. There was no way to go to God or have peace with God. In this miserable and desperate situation, we are headed towards eternal punishment. In a time where our destiny is full of darkness and hopelessness, Christ came on earth.

His life is a message in itself. When Jesus is born in a manger, it speaks of the humility of Son of God. Jesus is the light of the world, that wherever the light shines, there is eternal life and salvation. Jesus is also testified by the Apostle John to be the Word in John 1:1-11. With this light and message in our hearts, we should share the light and life that we have already received through hearing about Jesus Christ.

We must remember our Commission and self-identity that we are the light and salt of the world. A town built on a hill cannot be hidden. In belonging to the light, we should reflect the light and obey absolutely to the Word of God. All things come from God and we should be humble to obey absolutely to God from the smallest things to demonstrate obedience to the Lord. This is how Jesus showed us in obeying to the point of death. We should be filled with Jesus Christ and to lead many more to turn back to God that His name can be glorified through our ministry.”

May God lead all members to become the true light of the world as Jesus is the light of the world, and to imitate Him in His obedience and love to lead many more to salvation one day sooner.
